when i was a kid, maybe 9 or 10 when the sculptures were still there i used to look forward to the drive to san francisco made so much more interesting and wild because the "junk art" (as my mom used to call it) was there.

thinking about the bay area and the world at that time makes me realize how much has been lost: the quaintness, spunk and freedom that used crackle in the air. now the bay area has been sanitized for tourists and businessmen.

before i bum myself out by getting all nostalgic i just wanted to say thanks to the universe for this tribe's existence.

When I was about seven, my dad and I went on a walk along the mud flats.

What seemed so small from the road was literally huge when standing next to it. One sculpture I remember well was a giant wheel chair. My head only came up to the middle of the front wheels.

I wanted to know where it all came from. Who built all of that stuff.

Dad's answer, "people".

There were a lot of pictures taken that day. Perhaps, someday they will get scanned and added to this very sparce collection.

Not that Harold and Maude can't carry a show.
